Hildesheim, January 2021: KSM makes a donation to FiN – Familien in Not and the ASB Wünschewagen
Making donations for a good cause is a tradition at KSM. This year, FiN – Familien in Not (Families in Need) and the ASB Wünschewagen (ASB Last Wish Wagon) were delighted to receive an equal share of a generous cheque – just in time for
the beginning of the New Year.
The Familien in Not – FiN foundation has supported and encouraged children, young people and families in difficult circumstances since 2011. As well as giving advice and support, FiN also provides very specific assistance, e.g. with school and training materials, travel costs and finding accommodation. “FiN has a holistic approach”, says Thomas Buschjohann, Head of Design & Engineering at the KSM Castings Group “It’s about education and integration, and enabling and realising opportunities in an uncomplicated and unbureaucratic way.”
The chairman of the board, superintendent Mirk Peisert, and coordinator Gisela Sowa expressed their thanks for “the regular donation from KSM, particularly during these difficult times,“ emphasizes Peisert emphatically.
As well as the regular donations to FiN, at the suggestion of the KSM works council a new project was added this year in the form of Lower Saxony’s ASB-Wünschewagen – the “Last Wish Wagon”.
For almost five years, committed Samaritans have been making wishes come true for seriously ill people at the end of their lives: Taking them back to their favourite place – including nursing and medical care. The ASB project is financed exclusively by donations, and relies on the commitment of voluntary helpers.
A trip in the Wünschewagen is free of charge. Anyone who is able to make the journey may do so. The destination is entirely up to the patient – to the coast, to a football match, to a concert, to visit family or simply to see their home town once again. ASB Coordinator Julia Schröder is delighted by the donation: “With this contribution we’ll be able to finance four or five trips. We want to fulfil as many wishes as possible”.
