Hildesheim, August 2025:
KSM Castings Group connects foundry industry and nature
– seven bee colonies enrich the Hildesheim site

Sustainability in the foundry industry is not only evident in modern cast products and production processes, but also in the responsible treatment of nature and the environment. The KSM Castings Group is setting a good example: In collaboration with our beekeeper – a long-term KSM employee who has been beekeeping for over 30 years – seven bee colonies, each with around 30,000 bees, were established at two locations on our site in Hildesheim

The locations of the beehives are chosen so that the bees can find sufficient food – for example, in the nearby garden colonies and at the Innerste Au. In addition, beds with bee-friendly flowers have been planted on our premises. A bee colony produces an average of 20 to 50 kilograms of honey per year, so the first harvest is expected soon.

„For us, sustainability means more than reducing CO₂ emissions,“ explains Heinrich Hanekop, CSR Manager of the KSM Castings Group. „It also includes the protection of biodiversity and the assumption of ecological responsibility. With the beehives, we are setting a visible example of how industry and nature can exist in harmony.“

The initiative, which was agreed upon by management and employee representatives, not only strengthens local biodiversity – through pollination, bees make an important contribution to ecological balance – but also has a special significance for employees: Starting next year, the company‘s own „KSM honey“ will be distributed to employees as a birthday gift.

This creates a powerful symbol of sustainable business: The honey not only represents the close connection between industry and nature, but also the responsibility that German medium-sized companies assume for the environment and society.
